How To Get Cash For Clothes
Fortunately, when you need to get cash for clothes, it’s really easy to do. The way that you go about doing this is straightforward, the only thing that changes is where you do it. In this post I want to show you how to get cash when selling your clothes and where to sell them at.
Recycled clothings stores aren’t going to buy everything that you have. They’re going to be looking for things that are in good shape, current (or vintage) fashions, and jive with the current or upcoming season. I’m writing this in the middle of November, and if I were to go sell clothes today I would have the best luck with sweaters, jeans, and jackets. If it were March, I would be best off selling shorts, tank tops, and t-shirts. You’re smart, you probably have a good idea of what’s going to sell the easiest.
When it comes to current fashions, this varies a lot from one neighborhood to the next. If you had a closet full of designer jeans and shirts, you would go to a hip neighborhood. If your closet was full of hip-hop wear, head to an urban neighborhood. Vintage clothes? Go to San Francisco.
First and foremost, make sure that your clothes are clean before leaving the house. No one is going to buy something that’s dirty. I’m not talking about spraying it down with Febreeze, I mean actually running it through the washer and dryer. Taking clothes that aren’t clean is only going to waste your time.
What kind of places buy clothes? I’m only familiar with what’s in Northern California, and here we have Buffalo Exchange (also all over the country) and Crossroads (West Coast and Chicago). There are other smaller shops, but these two are probably the most popular. Plato’s Closet is also extremely popular and all over the country, clicking on your state in that link will help you find a location close to where you live.
If none of these stores have locations in your area, some search phrases that can help you out in Google are “recycled clothing [your city]“, “clothing consignment [your city]“, “used clothing [your city]“, or “sell clothes [your city]“. Obviously, replace [your city] with the city that you live in. Also keep in mind that places like Goodwill or Salvation Army only take donations, and won’t pay you anything for your stuff.
When you get cash for clothes, you’re not just helping out your wallet, you’re also helping the planet. Recycling and reusing clothes is one of the easiest and most fashionable ways to be “green” (and make some green!).
